Highland Dancers
Accompanying the skirl and the pipes and the beat of the drums are our highland dancers.
Highland dances, traditionally performed by men, were once considered feats of daring: the dancers feet would come perilously close to the sharpened blades of highland broadswords, which had been placed on the ground to serve as markers for the dance. Often, these dances were performed ceremonially before a battle. Lore holds that if a dancer struck the sword with his feet, it spelled “bad luck” for the forthcoming fight. Of course, with no battles to fight, the stakes for the student squad aren’t quit as high. But our dancers bring a light-hearted touch of tradition and athleticism to any event.
